How it works
Type or paste text and the counts update instantly. Characters includes spaces and line breaks; Characters (no spaces) excludes all whitespace. Characters are counted the way people see them, so an emoji or Hindi conjunct counts as one. Add an optional character limit to see how much room you have left. Everything is calculated locally in your browser -- nothing you type is uploaded or saved.
Is my text sent to any server?
No. The character counter runs entirely in your browser. The text you type or paste is never uploaded, stored, or included in analytics. We do not require sign-up or login.
Are spaces counted as characters?
Yes -- the main Characters figure includes spaces, tabs and line breaks, because most platforms count them towards their limits. Characters (no spaces) shows the count with all whitespace removed.
How are emoji and Hindi text counted?
Characters are counted the way you see them on screen, so an emoji (even one with a skin-tone modifier) or a Hindi conjunct counts as one character. Some platforms count emoji differently, so leave a little room when you are close to a strict limit.
What is the character limit option for?
Enter a limit -- or pick a common one such as a 160-character meta description or a 280-character post -- to see how many characters you have left, or how far over the limit you are.
