Text Compare

Paste two versions of any text to see exactly what changed -- added and removed lines, with the changed words highlighted. Your text never leaves your browser.

How it works

Paste the original text on the left and the changed version on the right, then choose Compare texts. The tool lines both texts up using a shortest-edit-script algorithm (the same approach as git diff), then compares edited lines word by word. Added lines are green, removed lines are red, and unchanged lines are shown for context -- or tick Show only changes to hide them. Copy the result as plain text with + and - markers. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Is my text sent to any server?

No. Text compare runs entirely in your browser. The text you type or paste is never uploaded, stored, or included in analytics. We do not require sign-up or login.

How are differences shown?

Removed lines are shown in red with a minus sign and added lines in green with a plus sign, with line numbers from both texts. When a line was edited rather than replaced, the exact words that changed are highlighted inside it.

What do the ignore options do?

Ignore case treats uppercase and lowercase letters as the same. Ignore whitespace ignores spaces at the start and end of lines and treats runs of spaces or tabs as a single space, so re-indented or re-spaced text is not flagged as changed.

How much text can I compare?

Up to 2,000,000 characters or 50,000 lines in each box. The comparison uses the same algorithm as popular developer tools. If two texts are extremely different, the tool shows the changed section as one removed and one added block rather than slowing your browser down, and long results can be limited to changed lines only.

What does Copy results give me?

A plain-text version of the comparison where added lines start with + , removed lines with - , and unchanged lines with two spaces -- handy for pasting into an email, ticket or document.
